High-speed, multi-colour optical photometry of the anomalous X-ray pulsar 4U 0142+61 with ULTRACAM
We present high-speed, multi-colour optical photometry of the anomalous X-ray pulsar 4U0142+61, obtained with ULTRACAM on the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope. We detect 4U0142+61 at magnitudes of i = 23.7± 0.1, g = 27.2± 0.2 and u > 25.8, consistent with the magnitudes found by Hulleman et al. (2004) and hence confirming their discovery of both a spectral break in the optical and a lack of lon...
متن کاملSteps towards a solution of the FS Aurigae puzzle . I . Multicolour high - speed photometry with ULTRACAM
We present the analysis of high-speed photometric observations of FSAur taken with the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope and the high-speed camera ULTRACAM in late 2003. These observations were intended to determine whether there was any evidence of photometric variability with a period in the range 50–100 seconds. The discovery of such variations would help to explain existence, in FS Aur, of t...
متن کاملX-ray Timing, Spectroscopy and Photometry of the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar
We present new X-ray timing and spectral results on the 8.0-second X-ray pulsar CXOU J010043.1– 721134 from a series of observations using the Chandra X-ray Observatory. We find a spin period in 2004 January of 8.020392±0.000009 seconds. Comparison of this to 2001 Chandra observations implies a period derivative Ṗ = (1.88 ± 0.08) × 10 s s, leading to an inferred dipole surface magnetic field fo...
متن کاملChandra Observations of the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar 4u 0142+61
We present X-ray imaging, timing, and phase resolved spectroscopy of the anomalous X-ray pulsar 4U 0142+61 using the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO). The spectrum is well described by a power law plus blackbody model with Γ = 3.35(2), kTBB= 0.458(3) keV, and NH= 0.91(2) × 10 22 cm; we find no significant evidence for spectral features (0.5− 7.0 keV). Time resolved X-ray spectroscopy shows evide...
متن کاملRXTE Monitoring of Anomalous X-ray Pulsar 4U 0142+61: Long-Term Variability
We report on 10 years of monitoring of the 8.7-s Anomalous X-ray Pulsar 4U 0142+61 using the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). This pulsar exhibited stable rotation from 2000 March until 2006 February: the RMS phase residual for a spin-down model which includes ν, ν̇, and ν̈ is 2.3%. We report a possible phase-coherent timing solution valid over a 10-yr span extending back to March 1996. A glit...
